Free Counseling and Support via The Soldiers Project

The Soldiers Project is a private, non-profit, independent group of volunteer licensed mental health professionals including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, registered nurses and marriage and family therapists.

Counseling and support is provided for free to military service members who have served or who expect to serve in the Iraq and/or Afghanistan conflicts and to veterans of those conflicts. In addition, the services are available to the families and other loved ones of service members. The Soldiers Project aims to provide help to service members and families struggling with issues related to the overwhelming trauma of war including the cycle from pre-deployment to deployment to homecoming and re-entry to civilian life.

The services are readily accessible and entirely free of charge. Soldiers Project does not report to any government agency.

Since its inception in 2004, The Soldiers Project (started by Dr. Judith Broder) has provided free, unlimited, confidential psychological counseling to those who have served or expect to serve in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as to their loved ones. Their treatment of those suffering not only from PTSD and TBI but also from MST – Military Sexual Trauma – has always been unique in honoring the privacy and dignity of the service members who have the courage to approach us for professional help.

Chapped Lips, & Chicken Shoot

Today was awesome – seriously. I started the day off WAY too early, but I had to in order to get to Norfolk in time for a spouse motivational workshop (the speaker was Jacey Eckhardt!!) – I’m sure I will be super blogging about it on my other blog so I’m not going into details here. Just stay tuned – lots of information for me to sort though!

I got mail from Team Mom – another awesome freaking review to do. I’ve got about 6 others for Parent Reviews. I love love love my job – but I think I’m going nuts this week. I will get them all done in the next couple days – I promise!!!

Hubby got MAIL today! He ordered a neat game for the Wii called “Chicken Shoot” – he bought it for Xander obviously since the kid needs a game that HE can play. It looks super cute (Alan was playing it today) but Xander will get to try it out tomorrow so we shall see he he fares. We also got a new gun thingy for the Wii called a “Wii Perfect Shot Gun.” It’s neat I guess. I mean, my husband is certainly enjoying it. He put Xander to bed and he’s right back to shooting the bird the chickens!

On the crappy side of life; it goes from hot to cold around here now and my nose is running and my lips are super chapped. Ugh … this is the sucky part of the season change.

Booty Bag Number One (Christine)

I had posted this awhile back on my (now defunct) crafty blog – so, since I’m combining the “crafties” onto this blog I figured I’d post this photo again. Maybe to kick my own butt into making the 3 more I promised friends? Who knows. But, behold – the camo booty bag of mine. Constructed from a pair of hubby’s cammies and some super cute dollar bin fabric. Lined with a neutral linen fabric that a friend of mine gave me.

Now I just need to make Camo bags “Valerie”, “Bianka” and “Julissa” (and Julissa gets a mini tote also). COMING SOON!

Today, Today

I use that title entirely too much. It’s because there really IS no title … What shall I call my pointless blog entry today? “Holy CRAP The Scale LIES” ? or “Xander has a BIG BOY Bed” ? or “Dude on the Telly is HAIRY” ? I dunno …

The Scale LIES! I hopped (well, stepped) onto it the other day and had a rude awakening … which prompted me to write this entry on my other (ahem, new) blog. Leads me to either get off my butt and check out the Oceana gym or invest in some gym equipment. How much do normal home gyms run anyway? What ONE piece of equipment do YOU recommend?

Xander has a BIG BOY bed! You read that right ladies and gents! My little boy, just shy of 3 years old, is sleeping in a brand spanking new TWIN size bed! Hubby put it together tonight. It has drawers and a bookshelf all built in. I’m excited, HE’s excited … My little boy is growing up! He was begging to go to school today too .. he say the school bus going down the street and ran to the door. It’s just too much.

Oh, hairy guy on the telly? Yeah, I’m just watching E! News …. it was some commercial. I am waiting for Chelsea Nightly to come on. Oh, didja hear that now Kat McPhee has been dropped from her RCA label? She’s got a crazy amazing voice, but she just didn’t catch up with the AMAZINGNESS of Chris Daughtry. She joins Ruben Studdard & Taylor Hicks as yet another AI “loser” …

I’m not snarky today, so I won’t keep going 😉

Update on “Us”

Alan’s home!! He flew into our hometown on our Anniversary (the 16th) 🙂 Xander and I are still sick – Xander being a little worse than me. He’s coughing and sleepy all the time. He’s pretty pitiful if you ask me. We’ve been keeping him doped up on Motrin (for the heat coming off him) and Robitussen (because the Dimetapp was not working).

We went out to dinner with Valerie her hubby Jason and their kids tonight. Our boys are like brothers, we’re going to miss them. I am trying to hang out with my friends (and Xander’s friends) as much as possible before we leave – but it’s turning into a problem since it’s Thanksgiving week … Everyone is heading out of town 🙁

Jacksonville is only 10 hours away from Virginia … right?

Our house up there is all signed and paid for. Our electricity and water get turned on the day before we get there. I still have to call for cable and internet though. All our contemporary furniture gets delivered on Tuesday. Hopefully Alan can be home for a little while for that – otherwise I’m on my own. No biggie.

We’re looking at getting a trailer hitch put on our minivan so we can tag team the drive up. We don’t have a ton of stuff here to pack, so the big trailer should be fine.

Too much to do … too little time. The house looks like a tornado went through it because of my suitcase, Alan’s suitcase and the packing paper Xander shredded all over the floor. Laundry is piled everywhere also since I’m making sure everything is clean before I pack it. Thankfully, Alan just changed the light bulb in our bedroom so we have light in there now. So, I can work in there at night. I was trying to pack things in Xander’s room this afternoon and Xander was trying to sit in my lap – so I got 2 boxes packed/sealed. There are 5-6 boxes in our bedroom that are half packed. I just need to finish throwing stuff in and seal them.

I need a list …
