The Surgeon General just recently posted a fact-sheet detailing breastfeeding facts and figures in America. The fact-sheet details how many American women breastfeed along with health benefits, economic benefits and even lists some of the obstacles mother’s may encounter breastfeeding.
It’s a really interesting list – I didn’t know that three out of four moms (that’s 75%) start out by breastfeeding, but by 6 months only about 43% of moms are still breastfeeding. Breastfeeding can be difficult but there are places you can get more information (in person) about breastfeeding – like your local Le Leche League!
So go read – learn something – then accept breastfeeding as a “normal” and not a “free peep show” or a “gross thing moms should only do at home.”
