So Not Outdoorsy

I’m really not a Great Outdoors kind of girl. I’ve been very open about that fact – but alas, it’s been ignored by my family. Ask my parents, ask my friend Amy, hell even ask Amy’s parents – I am NOT camping material!

I always get sunburn and usually I injure something. One time I went with my friend Amy and her parents to a camping ground in Brooksville (near Croom) and I ended up spraining my ankle. I had fallen in a hole and Amy fell on top of me. Totally not my fault! Another time I went camping with some co-workers in Daytona Beach and I got SEVERE sunburn. We’re talking blisters and everything. It was pretty awful.

This last time the family and I went camping it was in our own backyard. I lasted a few hours sleeping in the tent (maybe minutes) but then a SPIDER crawled up my face! Ugh!! The bugs love me, the woods hate me. That’s just the way it goes. I’m not nature girl!

But – like I said, my family loves to ignore this fact so I’ve gotta be prepared. I’ll need extra strength bug spray infused with Deet, some nice comfy walking boots for those long hikes, SPF 1700 sun block, a sun hat and my own personal Camelpack (it’s a water filled backpack thingy). All that and I will be ready to go.

I hate camping – but I’m willing to try and grit my teeth and bear it since my family (well, my husband and son) love it so much. Wonder what sort of stuff will happen to me on our next trip!

I’m sorry that we had Brandie and Alan camping at ages younger than Xander. Thats where Alan got his camping ideas, we went backpacking and hiking and camping when they were babies.

  2. I’m an outdoorsy girl, but camping sucks. I’m so thankful my Mom didn’t like it and my MIL taught me at 18 to just say no to camping. Roughing it to my MIL is a crappy cabin. lol

We are working on getting a trailer or RV cause hubby just knows better. Camping is too much work. What’s relaxing about having to come home and clean everything and pack it up again? Atleast with an RV we can be ready to go and have fun. Bring on the hiking, the lake play, the ocean, just don’t expect me to cook and clean out in no running water for the family. Jeesh.

  4. She likes to hold grudges doesn’t she? She still whines about when I asked her to hike to the top of the Rock of Gibralter…so what if she was pregnant! I wanted to see the monkeys!

Alan’s last blog post..We had a cool visitor this morning!
