RPC Mondragon Receives 2013 Military Fatherhood Award™

My husband is an RPC (Religious Programs Specialist Chief Petty Officer) – so of COURSE I’m going to share awesome articles I find about his fellow RP’s! Congrats RPC Mondragon!

Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, CA (PRWEB) June 13, 2013

At a ceremony this morning at the Third Marine Aircraft Wing at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI) presented the 2013 Military Fatherhood Award™ to RPC Patrick Mondragon, US Navy.

Mondragon, a husband and father of two, had to act as a solo parent during his wife’s recent life-threatening health complications. During that time, he cared for his wife and children while continuing to fulfill his military duties. In a display of amazing work-family balance, he recorded over 20 videos of himself reading stories to his children so that they could see and hear him while he was onboard the USS Bunker Hill and forward deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

In addition to caring for his own family, he dedicates himself to supporting other military families. As a religious program specialist on his base, he counsels dads and families on handling the challenges of military life. He was also the United through Reading Program Coordinator on the USS Bunker Hill, helping hundreds of dads stay connected to their children while deployed.

One of RPC Mondragon’s fellow sailors said, “I am not surprised that RPC Mondragon was selected. He is absolutely the father, man, sailor, RPC of the year, every year, in my book. I wish him and his family the best and I am so proud to serve along side of Patrick in the sea services.”

Weed, Emma Watson and the End of the World

I love that Emma Watson is getting further and further away from her “Hermione” counterpart WITHOUT turning into your stereotypical “child-star-turned-drug-whore.” That said – grownup Emma, wielding an ax and a super cute haircut, dropping the F-Bomb and robbing several men of liquor – was just ONE of the hysterical moments featured in the new movie “This is the End.”

Thanks to the Aloha Agency, LLC (who doesn’t have a website – but has a Facebook) – I got to bring my husband on a DATE and take him to see a screening of This is the End (which comes out tomorrow!)

This is the End is a full-length movie based on a 2007 short comedy film called Jay and Seth versus the Apocalypse  film written by writer-actors Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and director Jason Stone. The movie follows longtime buddies Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel to a party at James Franco’s house where they (and a host of other celebrities) are faced with the impending apocalypse.

The movie is rated “R” for a reason! Seth and Jay “reconnect” with lots (and lots) of weed and 3D gaming at the start of the movie. Then, at the celebrity party (featuring cameos from Rhianna, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, David Krumholtz, Aziz Ansari, Kevin Hart and many, many more) there is rampant drug use (apparently, Michael Cera is a MAJOR coke-head with a penchant for bathroom sexcapades) as well as booze, general shenanigans and a GIANT art piece shaped like a dong. It’s HILARIOUS for those of us who of legal-age to laugh at this stuff! But, seriously, don’t bring the kids!

I gotta say – this movie was HILARIOUS! Sure it’s ridiculous and stupid – but there’s sort of a message! It’s about friendship, good deeds, facing your fears … and drugs! Yay! I recommend grabbing your honey or a group of friends and seeing This is the End. It’s a crazy, fun ride that provides lots of belly laughs, celebrities falling into a Hellmouth and Channing Tatum in a Gimp suit!

Celebrity Spotting

So, one of my online ‘friends’ went out on the town last night with some girlfriends and met one of the stars from Glee! I’m so excited for her! I never meet celebs for a couple reasons – one being that I never go OUT! The other reason is because I am SO LAME! I think I get star struck too easily – I see a celebrity and think “hey, that’s so and so” and instead of just ASKING like a normal person I get all stupid and WALK AWAY (occasionally snapping a not-so-covert photo). I’m lame.

I live in Hawaii – there are actual CELEBRITIES here! In fact – my current celebrity crush Josh Hutcherson was here only a couple months ago shooting scenes for Catching Fire (the second book in the Hunger Games trilogy). I was hiking over where they were shooting and I am CERTAIN I was a few feet away when he walked by. Did I see if it was him? NO!

Lame, lame, lame ………

Emotional Freedom Technique and Intuition

Last night I attended my second EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) “class” with my friend Sarah.

EFT is a form of counseling intervention that draws on various theories of alternative medicine including acupuncture, neuro-linguistic programming, energy medicine, and Thought Field Therapy.  Basically, tapping on meridian points on the body (derived from acupuncture) can release energy blockages that cause negative emotions. Sounds wacky I know – but it’s pretty amazing stuff.

The premise of the couple classes I’ve attended have been that, when you are a little kid (think 2-3 years old) you are forming your little personality and how to navigate through life. The decisions you make THEN affect the way you behave, think, etc. as an adult. It makes a LOT of sense. It’s actually finding the ROOT of issues you may be having and trying to essentially “remove the weeds” in order to “plant the seeds” and deal with things better (be it pain, anxiety, depression, anger, etc.)

I’m really dumbing it down here because I am still a MAJOR noob when it comes to EFT. I’m really enjoying learning about it though. Attending the class is very relaxing for me, and I feel that the “tapping” is actually helping me a bit. I need to pick a time and “tap” each day on various things. In fact, I think I should make a list of things of things to “tap” on.

Anyway, I have Helen’s website bookmarked (Helen is the lovely lady who runs the class) and plan on reading more.

Oh – and a sidenote! Last month (the meetings happen monthly) I met a woman who I thought could benefit from some of the personal defense products that I sell – I got up the courage and gave her my business card. I ended up selling her a pepper spray right there. I’m hoping she never has to use it – but it warms my heart that she now knows where to get self defense products. That’s why I do what I do!

All-Star Cast in This is the End

I love movies that fall somewhere between “horror” and “comedy.” The first Scary Movie made me laugh SO HARD and Zombieland is one of my favorite movies of all time (same with Shaun of the Dead!). So, when I saw the trailer for This is the End I was very excited! Talk about an all-star cast! The movie stars James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Michael Cera and Emma Watson.

The movie follows six friends trapped in a house after a series of strange and catastrophic events devastate Los Angeles. As the world unravels outside, dwindling supplies and cabin fever threaten to tear apart the friendships inside. Eventually, they are forced to leave the house, facing their fate and the true meaning of friendship and redemption.

The movie looks HILARIOUS and – thanks to Aloha Agency and Ward 16 Theaters – my husband and I will be seeing this movie on the 10th! Woohoo DATE NIGHT!!

Don’t forget to grab your tickets to go see it when it comes out on June 12th!
