Anyone who knows me knows that there are two things in life that I LOVE – theatre and music! I especially love 80′s music and ‘hair bands’ like Quiet Riot, Mötley Crüe, Twisted Sister, Warrant and Poison (yummm …. Brett Michael’s). Well – how about COMBINING the two? Yes – I mean a Broadway musical that is all 80′s ‘Hair Band’ rock and roll! That, my dears, is the new Broadway musical sensation “ROCK OF AGES!”
New Line Records has released Original Broadway Cast Recording of five-time Tony Award nominated “ROCK OF AGES.” For those of you not in the know, Rock of Ages is the new Broadway musical starring American Idol finalist Constantine Maroulis (yummmm …..). Set in 1987 in a legendary Sunset Strip rock club, a small-town girl meets a big-city dreamer and they fall in love to the greatest metal songs of the 80′s. The musical is an arena-rock love story told through the hits of Journey, Bon Jovi, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Foreigner, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia, Whitesnake and more.
I had the opportunity to test out the soundtrack and when I received it in the mail believe me it promptly went into my car cd player. It’s cheesy-ness is outrageous – just as you would expect Hair Metal meets Broadway would be. It was awesome! It’s ‘Grease’ if ‘Grease’ were set in Hollywood in the 80′s!
Rock of Ages stars American Idol’s Constantine Maroulis (Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in Musical), Amy Spanger (The Wedding Singer ) and James Carpinello (Xanadu and Saturday Night Fever). The show was nominated for five Tony® awards including Best Musical, Best Actor in a Musical (Constantine Maroulis), Best Director (Kristin Hanggi), Best Costume Design (Gregory Gale) and Best Sound Design (Peter Hylenski)!

I gotta say though – the main girl kinda had me wanting to pull my ears off. I really didn’t like her voice … But the rest of the songs were great. I would definitely see this show!! Anyone wanna sponsor me to Broadway to see it?
