I Love My Dentist

Okay, you don’t hear that often – I mean that someone actually likes their dentist – but really, I do. I asked friends where they go for dentistry in Virginia Beach and my friend Melissa takes her kids to Dr. Bredologos and has been for years. When I called to make my own appointment (well – one for me and also my seven year old as well) we were assigned Dr. Mendrinos (who is actually the sister of Dr. Bredologos!)

My first appointment – the first cleaning I’ve had in over 5 years – took forever. I don’t take care of my teeth like I should and the poor hygienist had to scrape the hell out of my teeth. She chatted with me while she worked and was super nice. I realized though that I had been gripping the seat handles the entire time.

The next visit was a cavity fill – a BIG one – and I was so incredibly amped up and nervous. The last time I had work done on my teeth was my wisdom teeth removal and it was hell! It hurt – everything hurt – even the giant needle they used to numb me up. I even screamed during the appointment because I was absolutely FREAKING OUT! But – as soon as Dr. Mendrinos began to talk to me about my nervousness it went out the window. I was worried I’d flip out and asked her if I could have “the gas” and she said she didn’t think I’d need it but if at ANY time during the procedure I felt that I was losing it she’d give it to me. I barely felt her numbing my mouth and didn’t feel anything during the procedure. Between Dr. Mendrinos and her hygienist talking to me during the procedure – I was completely calm.

They is a relaxing aura about the place. I’ve never EVER felt that at any dentist office. I’m seriously going to miss them once we move to Hawaii and I have to find a new dentist!

Hey – I wasn’t paid ANYTHING or even asked to write this. I just wanted to! Just letting you know!

Got A Baby? You Need Butt Paste!

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Boudreaux’s Butt Paste. All opinions are 100% mine.

Well, maybe not YOU but certainly THEM! Babies spend allllll day in their diapers – so when they get a diaper rash you want to get it taken care of quickly. One of the best diaper creams on the market today (and one I’ve personally used on Xander’s bum when he was a wee tot) is Boudreaux’s Butt Paste. Now, I’ve still no idea how to properly pronounce that – but it certainly works!

Boudreaux’s Butt Paste is Pediatrician recommended so you can trust that it will not hurt your baby. It cleans up easily and has a super handy flip-top cap – because when you are changing that squirmy infant do you really have an extra hand to unscrew a cap? Also – it doesn’t smell bad … which is nice since usually changing diapers isn’t the best smelling activity to do in your day.

Boudreaux’s Butt Paste comes in several handy sizes including 1oz, 2oz, 3oz and 4oz tubes and even a 16oz jar – so keep one by your changing table, in the car, in your diaper bag and anywhere else you might think you would need it (because like I mentioned earlier – you are SO gonna need it!)

You may have heard of Boudreaux’s Butt Paste before – it’s been mentioned on shows like Oprah and the Today Show as well as in People Magazine.

Wanna try it before you buy it? Visit the Boudreaux’s Butt Paste website for a free sample! Your baby’s bum will certainly thank you!

Oh Alice! (Wanna Make your Shopping Easier?)

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Alice.com. All opinions are 100% mine.

When I heard about a website called Alice.com I thought – yeah, yet another ‘order groceries from home’ and get charged out the wazoo to do so. No thanks. But I read that there was free shipping and then thought – wow, they must charge a lot for their groceries. Then I said – hey, it’s free might as well see what I can find.

I loaded up the Alice website and chose from a few different pictures who was in my family – there are three of us (hubby, the boy and I) then I chose from a list what types of household items I normally purchase. In less than two minutes I was signed up for what promises to be a huge help to my household life.

My monthly grocery budget is roughly $400 – this covers foods, bath products, health products and things like that. It’s not a lot because it kinda covers all the times per month we go out to eat. We’re a little tight right now.

Things that I buy each week no fail include milk, soda (coke), and a jug or two of water. I’ve stretched out toilet paper, pet food (dog and cat) and cat litter to every two weeks.

But with free shipping and the potential to save some serious money (including the fact that Alice automatically adds in coupons for you) I figured why not try it out – I mean REALLY try it out.

So I did a search for “dog food” and found that Alice has 62 different types. Right away I find Beneful Healthy Weight which is the food that I feed my dog. I use the 15.5lbs bag which is roughly 248oz. The biggest bag that Alice has is the 56oz bag which would last my dog roughly 3 days. Nah!

I did a search for the cat food (Meow Mix) and could only find the boxes – I get a large bag. Nah!

I gave up on the search and just tried to add some products. I tried Contact Solution first and saw that I can choose my brand (Bausch & Lomb), the quantity needed and how often Alice should remind me to purchase more. That’s pretty neat right there!

Next up I went hunting for my shampoo and conditioner – I use Pantene Pro-V Beautiful Lengths (because for some weird reason it actually helps to grow my hair). Found them both and was happy to see that both came with a $0.50 off coupon!

There are a few different ways to search for things on Alice – you can use the search box like I mentioned above, you can just click on the “My Products” page where it gives you general themes of products or you can even shop by room. I clicked pantry because I currently cleared out things and need to restock my staples.

Alice ships products from our Midwest-based distribution center. Depending upon where you live, you’ll receive your Alice order within 1 to 6 business days. When you order you will get your estimated shipping time, and an e-mail with a tracking number to track your Alice box as it makes its way to your door.

There is even a Refer a Friend program (located under the "My Account" section)! So you can actually offer your readers a discount AND make a little extra money yourself. You should check out Alice – and sign up for free. I think it sounds pretty cool and once I figure out what I need to fill up my pantry I will place my first order! The shipping is free – so might as well!

Twilight: New Moon Soundtrack (review)

51J8E1J81wL._SL160_ While I really enjoyed the Twilight soundtrack I really, really liked this one much better. Everything about the soundtrack was perfect for the movie – much more so than the first. The difference with this cd was that each song was either written directly for New Moon or can only be found on this soundtrack and was chosen specifically for the movie.

Book Review: Educating Esme

Educating Esme New Cover Recently, I had the opportunity to read an interesting (and might I add – hilarious) book called Educating Esmé written by Esmé Raji Codell. Ms. Codell is a nationally renowned advocate for literacy and literature-based instruction and is “one of the nation’s most sought-after voices for empowering teachers" (People Magazine) and a “Superstar of Education” (Scholastic Instructor).

Educating Esmé is the exuberant diary of Esmé Raji Codell’s first year teaching in a Chicago public school. Fresh-mouthed and free-spirited, the irrepressible Madame Esmé—as she prefers to be called—does the cha-cha during multiplication tables, roller-skates down the hallways, and puts on rousing performances with at-risk students in the library. Her diary opens a window into a real-life classroom from a teacher’s perspective. While battling bureaucrats, gang members, abusive parents, and her own insecurities, this gifted young woman reveals what it takes to be an exceptional teacher.

The diary itself is exactly the same as it was when it was first released , but there’s a new foreword by Katherine Paterson, author of "Bridge to Teribithia", and a meaty guide that’s been added called “Hit the Ground Running,” which I created to help new teachers do just that. The most common question I’m asked is, “Do you have any advice for new teachers?” Now readers will find over twenty-five really specific and hopefully pragmatic pieces of advice and also a comprehensive shopping list for the first-year teacher.

I am not a teacher and have never had any desire in this world to be one – but I am a parent and I know that children are curious, crazy and sometimes obnoxious little beings. This book shows kids in every one of those lights and shows how one teacher took it all in stride, made learning fun and taught her students valuable life lessons. I would’ve LOVED to have “Madame Esmé” as a teacher when I was young! Esmé is young, hip, inventive, sassy and an amazing writer. I was hysterical reading some of the comments that came out of her fifth graders’ mouths!

Educating Esmé is a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone who comes in any contact with children. Parents, teachers and care providers alike will benefit from the lessons and humor in this book. I know a few teachers and I know that they give 110% of their hearts to their students. They spend their own money to try and make their classrooms fun and engaging and often do not get any help (or credit … or assistance …) from the schools they teach in.

Teachers are EXTREMELY IMPORTANT and should be treated as such. It was eye opening to me to see just how many brick walls they run into trying to teach our children – and I’m not even talking about over-crowded classrooms. It’s high time we let our teachers teach and stop making them teach the answers to standardized tests. Our children need to learn – not determine how much money a school earns based on how high they score on a boring, hours long test. *steps off soapbox*

Esmé has been interviewed on CBS This Morning, CNN, CSPAN’s Book Talk, and NPR. The author of "How to Get Your Child to Love Reading" as well as numerous award-winning books for children, Esmé lives with her husband and son in Chicago, where she spent many years as an educator in Chicago public schools and now runs the popular children’s literature web site PlanetEsme, and the unique literary salon, The PlanetEsme Bookroom.

You can purchase Educating Esmé: Diary of a Teacher’s First Year from Amazon!

Big Thanks to JBH Marketing & PR for the chance to read this book!

Cum On Feel the NOIZE!

ROA_album cover Anyone who knows me knows that there are two things in life that I LOVE – theatre and music! I especially love 80’s music and ‘hair bands’ like Quiet Riot, Mötley Crüe, Twisted Sister, Warrant and Poison (yummm …. Brett Michael’s). Well – how about COMBINING the two? Yes – I mean a Broadway musical that is all 80’s ‘Hair Band’ rock and roll! That, my dears, is the new Broadway musical sensation “ROCK OF AGES!”

New Line Records has released Original Broadway Cast Recording of five-time Tony Award nominated “ROCK OF AGES.”  For those of you not in the know, Rock of Ages is the new Broadway musical starring American Idol finalist Constantine Maroulis (yummmm …..). Set in 1987 in a legendary Sunset Strip rock club, a small-town girl meets a big-city dreamer and they fall in love to the greatest metal songs of the 80’s. The musical is an arena-rock love story told through the hits of Journey, Bon Jovi, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Foreigner, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia, Whitesnake and more.

I had the opportunity to test out the soundtrack and when I received it in the mail believe me it promptly went into my car cd player. It’s cheesy-ness is outrageous – just as you would expect Hair Metal meets Broadway would be. It was awesome! It’s ‘Grease’ if ‘Grease’ were set in Hollywood in the 80’s!

Rock of Ages stars American Idol’s Constantine Maroulis (Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in Musical), Amy Spanger (The Wedding Singer ) and James Carpinello (Xanadu and Saturday Night Fever). The show was nominated for five Tony® awards including Best Musical, Best Actor in a Musical (Constantine Maroulis), Best Director (Kristin Hanggi), Best Costume Design (Gregory Gale) and Best Sound Design (Peter Hylenski)!

Here is the tracklist:

  1. Just Like Paradise / Nothin’ But A Good Time
  2. Sister Christian
  3. We Built This City / Too Much Time On My Hands
  4. I Wanna Rock
  5. We’re Not Gonna Take It
  6. Heaven/More Than Words / To Be With You
  7. Waiting For A Girl Like You
  8. Wanted Dead Or Alive
  9. I Want To Know What Love Is
  10. Cum On Feel The Noize / We’re Not Gonna Take It (Reprise)
  11. Harden My Heart / Shadows Of The Night
  12. Here I Go Again
  13. The Final Countdown
  14. Any Way You Want It / I Wanna Rock (Reprise)
  15. High Enough
  16. I Hate Myself For Loving You / Heat Of The Moment
  17. Hit Me With Your Best Shot
  18. Can’t Fight This Feeling
  19. Every Rose Has Its Thorn
  20. Oh Sherrie
  21. The Search Is Over
  22. Don’t Stop Believin’

Buy the album here: http://tr.im/rvjv!

I gotta say though – the main girl kinda had me wanting to pull my ears off. I really didn’t like her voice … But the rest of the songs were great. I would definitely see this show!! Anyone wanna sponsor me to Broadway to see it? 😉

Rock of Ages tickets are on sale now through November 1st. You can get them via the Rock of Ages website!
