One of the popular myths about Navy Family Life is that when you are stationed overseas it’s like one big vacation. Yes it can be fun – but it can also be stressful when you have to take into account the cultural differences that you will come across. But – the cool part about living overseas is the fact that you are LIVING OVERSEAS! I think the most expensive part of traveling to; say for example, Europe is the actual flight across the ocean. Once you are over there you can take advantage of driving on the fast highways, flying to different countries or even riding the train across the continent.
Once ‘across the pond’ you can take some pretty awesome trips! A few of the places we visited while in Spain were Malaga (which is right on the Mediterranean Sea) and Madrid (which is literally one huge round-about!) both beautiful and both very different.
Malaga and Marbella I think are the rich people capitols of southern Spain. All you see there are fancy cars and luxury Spanish vacation rentals. Not to mention white sands and blue seas – it’s really gorgeous there.
Here in the United States you can find some pretty nice luxury vacation rentals too. In my neck of the woods – Virginia – we have a lot (a LOT) of history dating back pre-Revolutionary War. If your hubby is the “I want to stay in a super posh resort” and you are the “I just want to hunt for ghosts” then Virginia is a great place to visit because we literally have both types of those Virginia vacation rentals.
Do a little research before visiting any place be it here in the USA or abroad. That way you can see as much as you possibly can and spend only the money you want to spend.

A few of my online friends have posted fabulous Holiday Gift Guides for their readers! I just wanted to write up a quick post and let MY readers know about them! I personally haven’t even really begun holiday shopping. I have no money and my son already has too many toys. But – I’m sure I will eventually buy him (and my husband) something – so better get prepared, right?
As I locate more of my friends’ guides I will link to them! So this post will hopefully be updated soon! Happy Shopping!
I realized today that I an not and will never be a “Programmer” when it comes to software and (web) development. It took going thru (and doing poorly in) a Javascript class and now trying to stay awake and pay attention in my Programming class to make me realize this. It’s just really not for me. I don’t mind a little javascript and a little programming – but I seriously SERIOUSLY hate math and today the majority of our assignments were all about ‘order of operations’ and logic. While it’s sorta easy since it’s beginning math stuff (remember: Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally?) it still completely grates on me and makes me quite the unhappy camper.
Add all this to the fact that I am yet again (er .. still?) sick and crampy! Bleh!! I have a ton of stuff to do (including fixing Lisa’s borked website, IE-afying Dwan’s website, Connie’s business card and two reviews for Elina – and I’m multitasking here – but all I wanna do is fall asleep.
On the plus side – I have tickets to New Moon on Friday! At least that’s something …
If you are poor like me or are just trying to stick to a budget then you NEED to check out Listia.com! Listia is awesome because everything on the site being offered is offered for free. It seems similar to the book swapping website (that I am forgetting the name of right now) where you earn credits and ’spend’ those earned credits on books. But Listia is an “auction” website for free stuff!
Everything on Listia is being given away by users for free. You can get items for free by using credits instead of cash. Each item is being auctioned off using those credits for bidding.
Listia also offers charity auctions and great ways to recycle things that you might otherwise throw away, such as old cell phones, vhs tapes, clothes, old TV. You may not be able to sell these items for cash, but you can recycle them by giving them away to someone who needs them!
A couple cool things I found on Listia while I was looking around included a gorgeous Papasan baby seat in great condition and lots of super cute clothes for kids. I also saw health & beauty products and a freaking awesome looking TwitterPeek mobile tweeting device (I’ve never even heard of that!!).
Listia is currently running a promotion where you can get 300 credits for free just by joining and listing an item.
